You’re engaged
and have the set the date! You’ve secured the church and
reception hall. Now what?
1. Invest in a good wedding calendar to
help you stay organized and ahead of the curve. It will also act as a memory
book.
2. Start your research with your fiancé, family and
friends--ask for referrals. Allow at least 9 to 12 months lead time to secure
your entertainment, especially if your date falls on a prime
Saturday during Ohio’s prime wedding season of May through
October.
3. After reviewing literature from the internet and through
the mail, take the time to talk to your Top 3 companies.
Ask
yourself “Did the company appear interested in me and my
thoughts or was it strictly a sales job?”
4. Schedule an initial meeting/consultation with the owner
or a
representative from your Top 3 companies. If desired,
include your fiancé at this
meeting. Men and women often think differently about the
ceremony and reception activities.
5. If you haven’t already done so, learn the following about
each company:
|
A. How long has the company done
business in your area? Can the company provide 3
current references?
B. What type of event is their
specialty?
C. Does the DJ's music library contain the music of your
choice?
D. What is their policy on obtaining your special
requests?
E. Do they use contracts and require a deposit?
What about the balance payment and overtime?
F. What type of
equipment do they use? Are they familiar with your hall and
its sound requirements?
G. Do they display large signs or
put out business cards?
H. Do they have stage lighting,
a wireless microphone and props?
I. Do they have back-up
equipment as well as personnel?
J. What will the DJs wear?
K.
What is their policy on eating/drinking/smoking? |
6. Ask the DJ to describe how the evening’s activities will
be organized.
7. Is the DJ comfortable with the format that you prefer?
8. Ask about the stage presence and personality throughout
the event...does it match your tastes.
9. Does the DJ company sincerely care about you and your
ideas?
10. Is the company experienced enough to be able to offer
you creative alternatives to the standard protocol?
11. Inquire about the cancellation policy.
12. Do you feel that you will receive outstanding customer
service and will they be there for you?
When you have found what you're looking for, secure the date as
soon as possible with a contract and deposit.
Professional services are always secured with a contract to
ensure their commitment to your event. This will avoid
any last minute cancellations which would leave you with an
unfortunate last minute crisis. |
